Autobiographical Book Review

In the book, "Uncle Boris in the Yukon", NPR commentator Daniel Pinkwater describes his life to the reader. He tells his story through the dogs that have come and gone during his existence. The novel starts off with him wanting a dog because of the amazing stories that his Uncle Boris tells about them, but instead he only gets unconventional pets. Then the book jumps to his adulthood, during which he had a series of dogs, all with different quirks and distinctive personality traits. Through all of the escapades with his dogs, the reader watches him grow as a person with the help of his canine friends. Daniel Pinkwater learns many lessons because of his many dogs.

Although this book may seem like it's all about dogs, it also manages to keep the readers attention. Daniel Pinkwater's witty and humorous writing style makes it an enjoyable for dog-lovers and dog-haters alike. "Uncle Boris in the Yukon" is a collection of short stories that are all connected in a manner that makes the book flow seamlessly. Unlike most autobiographies, which consist of mainly facts and useless dates and numbers, this book was interesting in a way that fiction usually is. Though the stories are believable, there is a sense of fictitious element about the book that makes it an enjoyable and intriguing novel. Daniel Pinkwater has produced another well-written and enticing book.
